Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does an alarm system work?

A: After you’ve purchased your custom alarm system, Security Innovations, Inc. will install and program the system to communicate with a central monitoring station. Your new alarm system uses the existing telephone line in your home to send digital data identifying your account number. The alarm then releases the telephone line back to the home.

Q: When the alarm is triggered, what happens next?

A: Upon receiving the alarm signals, the dispatcher will call the home to verify a true alarm (this helps prevent false alarms). The police or fire department will then be dispatched in the event of a true alarm. Next, the dispatchers will call a list of contacts that you have provided for the alarm.

Q: I’m not happy with my current alarm company. Can I switch to Security Innovations, Inc.?

A: YES. However, if you are under a current contract, this must be completed or cancelled before we can monitor your system. We can, however, provide service for your existing equipment until such time as we are able to monitor the account as well.

Q: Why should I have a monitored alarm system?

A: If your alarm goes off and you aren’t home, the monitoring center will verify the alarm and notify the proper authorities. This could mean the difference between losing all of your possessions or having only minimal damage.

Q: Will your monitoring center receive alarms if the system isn’t armed?

A: Yes, however only a few. We program your system to provide daily, weekly or monthly tests to let us know that the system is still communicating. If you have a fire, the alarm will report to the central station. Fire alarms are not dependent on the arming status of the system.

Q: What if I have an older home?

A: No problem. If we can hardwire the devices in your home, we will. However, if this isn’t possible, due to advances in wireless technology, we can provide the best wireless equipment on the market today.

Q: What happens if my phone line is cut or disabled?

A: We offer cellular back-ups to the alarm system at an additional charge. However, in some areas, the cellular service is "spotty". In these areas we try to find a location in which the signal is strong enough to operate properly.
